How Many Tissue Jumbo Rolls Fit in a Container? Loading, Weight & Yield Guide
One of the first questions tissue converters and distributors ask is simple: how many jumbo rolls fit in a container, how heavy is each roll, and how many finished products will one ton produce? Getting these numbers right protects your shipping budget and your cost-per-roll. In this guide, HUAXIN Global-a direct tissue paper jumbo roll manufacturer in Fujian, China-shares the real loading, weight and yield figures we use for 1850mm toilet paper and 300mm napkin parent reels.
A jumbo roll-also called a parent roll, mother roll or raw-material reel-is the large base-paper roll produced by a paper mill. Converters buy these parent reels and run them through rewinding, embossing, folding and cutting equipment to make finished toilet paper, facial tissue, napkins, hand towels and kitchen towels. Jumbo rolls are specified by web width, roll diameter, core size, basis weight (gsm), ply and pulp type (virgin wood pulp or recycled pulp).
For the most common export specification-1850mm width with a 1150mm diameter-a 40ft container holds about 26 rolls, totaling roughly 12-13 tons. Because loading is driven mainly by roll diameter, the number changes if your rolls are wider, narrower or wound to a different diameter. Send us your exact width and diameter and we will prepare a container loading plan for your order mix.
One 1850mm toilet paper parent roll with a 1150mm diameter weighs around 500 kg. The precise figure moves slightly with basis weight (gsm), the number of plies and the pulp type. A heavier, high-basis-weight grade gives a thicker, more absorbent sheet, while a lighter grade is more economical for high-volume standard and economy toilet lines.
This is the key number for your unit cost. For a standard 2-ply toilet paper at 300 sheets per roll, one ton of parent roll yields about 11,110 finished toilet rolls-roughly 90 grams per finished roll in this example. The yield changes as soon as you alter sheet count, ply or sheet size: more sheets or more plies per roll means fewer finished rolls per ton. Share your finished-roll specification and we will calculate the exact output for you.
Tissue Jumbo Roll Loading, Weight & Yield (1850mm toilet / 300mm napkin)
Product | Width | Diameter | Weight / roll | Per 40ft container | Yield |
Toilet paper jumbo roll | 1850mm | 1150mm | ~500 kg | 26 rolls / 12-13 tons | 11,110 finished rolls / ton (2-ply, 300 sheets) |
Napkin paper jumbo roll | 300mm | 1150mm | ~110 kg | ~160 rolls | 653,594 napkin sheets / ton |
For converters making napkins and serviettes, a 300mm napkin paper mother roll with a 1150mm diameter weighs around 110 kg, and one container loads about 160 rolls. In terms of finished output, one ton of 300mm napkin jumbo roll produces roughly 653,594 napkin sheets. As with toilet paper, the real figure depends on finished napkin size, ply and folding type. The bright, smooth base paper also takes monogram printing and embossing sharply for dinner and beverage napkins.
